UTSA Summer Law School Preparation Academy (SLSPA)
The University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA) Institute for Law and Public Affairs is pleased to offer the UTSA Summer Law School Preparation Academy (SLSPA), a premier pre-law program designed to increase the number of students who successfully gain admission to and excel in quality law schools.
The SLSPA curriculum is designed to prepare students for law school and the LSAT (Law School Admissions Test) by emphasizing analytical thinking, critical reading, and quality writing skills. Students receive 12 hours of undergraduate credit which can transfer to most accredited universities.

The Academy incorporates two phases, with students taking 2 3-credit courses in each. Each phase is five weeks. Phase I starts in early June and phase II starts  in mid-July. Students apply for Phase I as sophomores and attend the Academy during the summer between their sophomore and junior years. Students enroll in Phase II during the summer after their junior year and before their senior year. Students who complete the SLSPA receive the UTSA Certificate in Legal Reasoning. The cost of each SLSPA course is as that of any other undergraduate course at the UTSA. Admittance is on competitive basis.

Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO)
This is a great summer program for students who are 0-L --that is, people who are already admitted to law school but not yet attending. It is nationally competitive and requires letters of recommendation.

Founded in 1963 during the height of the modern Civil Rights Movement, SEO began as a mentoring and college preparation program for underprivileged high school students in New York City. The organization's mission was based upon the conviction that all students can succeed when given access to opportunities. Since 1980, SEO has provided underrepresented students of color with paid summer internships leading to full-time jobs. More than 30 years later, Blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans are still underrepresented in many top entry level jobs.  SEO’s Law program is the only program of its kind to offer 0L (pre-law school students) an opportunity to intern with a top firm.  Interns will observe and experience first-hand the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of corporate attorneys at some of the nation’s most prestigious firms.

Applications are due in early March, prior to the start of law school in fall.
